Another decent ride on the carrera today with a pit stop at mum and dads. I’ve fitted a Rolls saddle which seems to be quite comfy for my old backside. A pair of bargain Vittoria Rubino Pro IV G2.0 Folding Tyres (£15 a piece from Banana Industries) have also been fitted. They ride well, seem quite grippy and hold pressure well. I took the Odyssey Svelte pedals off of my BioRacer and fitted those too. I think the Carrera will get a lot more use, so it made sense. I will move to clips in the not too distant future. The parts with surface corrosion will be sorted in time.

Another ride out today, my sister joined me. We had a little pit stop on the Greenway and checked out the graffiti.

I love the paint job on your Carrera. In fact I love that era of Carreras. Is the paint as good as it looks?
Cheers! It does have a few marks but only a few with a bit of rust showing. It’s where the top tube and lug meet at the head tube end, one top one bottom. Otherwise pretty clean.
I keep checking out a Corsa 14 on eBay, it’s in Wales for collection only. It’s just as well as I’m out of space 🤣

I wanted to give the Carrera a ride out yesterday. I’ve been riding me Cadex everyday for 5 weeks and I fancied a change. So on Friday night I aired the tyres up and checked it over. I then remembered that the last time I ride it the rear derailleur was playing up quite a bit. I had a go at adjusting it from scratch, no luck. The cable adjuster didn’t feel right but It was late so I gave up and ended up going out on the Cadex yesterday.

I had a closer look at what was going on with the cable adjuster today. It had snapped off flush with the body of the derailleur, oh dear. So I set about extracting the threaded section remaining in the body. My tool selection for such a job is very limited and I knew I didn’t want to drill it out. So I freed the cable, pulled it out and had a think. Armed with an old Stanley blade, screw driver and screw and a squirt of plus gas I set my plan into action 🤣 I popped out the little collar from the crank side of the body, carefully screwed in the screw until it started to bite. Then sat the Stanley blade into the snapped threaded section on the adjuster side of the body. With a little pressure and rotation on the Stanley blade whist turning the screw, I got a slight turn on it. This was repeated several times until there was enough threads showing to get some pliers on it to finish the job. Result! Sometimes it’s the little victories right.

I knew I had a salvaged 105 rear derailleur which I thought would have the same or very similar cable adjuster on it. A little rummage and my donor was found, a quick clean of the cable adjuster and it was in place on the Carrera’s RX100 derailleur. The gears have now been tuned to the best of my ability and are running so much sweeter. I think they could be dialed in a bit more in someone else’s hands.

I’ll be out on the Carrera soon.
