Carrera Any Good?

hello, this is my first post.

I have been a member of the MTBE forums for a good few months but after picking up a Carrera Optima today and asking for advice I was told to try these forums.

So here goes....

It is currently in the back of the car right now, It is aluminium and very light, I had a quick look and saw it had a Alivio rear mech, same as my bloody current Scott Aspect.

It must have been great spec in its day! It does have grip shift though.

I only really got it for the wheels, I was gonna put some slick-ish road tyres on them, then swap them when i need to with my wheels/tyres for road rides.

I looked around the net at bike restoration, I would love to try and rebuild/respray the bike, although my wife would not be happy at all ... it seems a shame to scrap it. I could just get all the paint off and leave it at that just with a clear topcoat. hhmmmm.

If anyone has any info./spec/opinions or experience of this bike I would love to hear them.

I could only find a couple of pics on line of the Optima, the bike in the pic is not my bike but its the same model/colour, the one i have is a little more used, think thats the best way to describe it. lol

I wouldn't spend much time or money on it. It looks in good nick anyway, be a decent hack.

If you like it and want to titivate it a little there's nowt wrong with that - it's a nice looking bike.

Spec wise it is nothing to write home about, alivio is a long way down the pecking order and is probably best described as functional at best. As with all bikes, if it makes you happy its a keeper, if not, take what you need and ebay the rest.
