Retro Newbie
First attempt in over 40 years to build a bike. On my original poat some one said new trendy fad ref fixie well I am 61 years old and when I was 14-16 years old my farther had a small bicycle repair shop that I worked in during the holidays. Most of the bikes I have owned were fixed wheel including a Bates with bent front forks a Curley Hetchings ,Claud Butler and a few more so I dont think its a new fad juat an old one on its way back. Just finnished this paint job not that good but next time hope I can improve on it. Had a few rides on it now going to sell it to cover the costs of my next project.

Nice looking example!

As a fellow fixed rider, my thoughts on anyone who starts up about fixed being a fad don't know a lot about cycling history.

:)

It's a fair comment about 'fixie's having been around for a long time, i was speaking to a guy in his seventies at the weekend, apparently he and all his friends rode fixed-wheels in the winter, then swapped the rear wheel for what he called 'french gears' in the summer when he was a lad..

He also mentioned not bothering to change it one year, and riding it from Glasgow to the I.o.W. and back one summer

What you've got there is a proper fixed wheel bike of the sort that hard-core clubmen have been riding for years (as you rightly say). Simple, straight forward and nice looking too.

The "fixie" fad is something altogether different which usually ends up creating a right dog's dinner of a bike. I won't go on.....

One thing about your bike though, the skewers are the wrong way round. The quick release levers should be on the other side of the bike. Seeing as the rear has a quick release have you used a normal hub with a bottom bracket lockring or is it a track hub with a hollow spindle?

Mark.

Hubs

Dont really know about the quick release just made them up with the bits I have, I cleared a couple of sheds out for a friend full of bikes and bits got losts of stuff to but on here to sell soon as I sort it out.
