just done a combined quote for myself and the wife. both 32. 10 years no claims and no accidents or convictions. low risk area. fully comp policy, valued at £1000 each car.

98 golf se cabrio 1.4 10k a year lowered, alloys
88 golf gti modified in many ways, all declared 5k
94 skoda felicia pick up. lowered, alloys 5k

the quote? £3500!!!

Since the "no win no fee" started (basically when advertising laws were relaxed) insurance has jumped up and up because of "oh my neck" blah blah

I've heard there is a way of driving with your own insurance, you need something like a million in a secure account or something, just need to win the lottery first, then dump the damn twats.

Still seems expensive though, i was paying £500 for my highly modified 205GTi (engine change to 2.0 16V Mi16, brakes, suspension, interior, colour etc) fully comp, agreed valuation, like for like replacement, 8k miles, aged 30 and 7years NC and partner as named driver. That was Adrian Flux.

the golf is a track car (caged, stripped, uprated everything) so its unfair to expect a normal insurer to be competitive but even without it its still well ott.

last time car was on road (about 18 months ago  it was insured with hic (sister co to flux) with a really good trackday policy (fully comp on track and road). mileage limitted to 8 or 10k, cant remember now. that policy was just over £200. was basically a classic policy. mods didnt really affect it.

That's got me worried now for when i get my 205 back on the road, has insurance jumped up that much

Ever considered a traders policy?

Last one we had insured us for any vehicle, anything we planned on keeping had to be named for the MID and that was about £500..

Doubt it'll give track day cover though :?

i have had a trade policy in the past but not being a trader makes it a little difficult getting it in the second year. plus they only pay out at trade price. i dont really need track cover to be honest. was just an added bonus on that policy.

e.r. it has gone up but i dont think its as bad as it looks. i;m sure flux will be far more reasonable
