Cantilever brake pad question

I'm trying to find some suitable replacements for some circa 1990 LX M550 and Exage canti brakes as shown in these catalogue scans:

The problem I'm finding is that the original pads are very deep which allows them to easily reach the rim braking surface.
However any replacements I have tried so far lack the necessary pad depth. What happens is that the pads don't reach unless I severely compromise the cable angles and set-up.

What I need is some pads where there is a bolt which threads into the back of the pad. That way I can use longer bolts along with spacer washers to get the correct set-up.

All I have found so far is pads which have a short threaded stud on the back onto which a nut is threaded.
These are always too short.

I've thought about using road caliper type pads like these but with a longer bolt:

Has anyone had this problem and/or tried using road pads as a solution...?

Some of the aftermarket road pads are quite deep in themselves, have a set on my crosser I could measure the depth on for you.

Cheers John. The threaded stud isn't long enough on the Aztecs I've tried, although the ones in that link do look a bit longer.

In the past I've used V-brake pads. Not perfect, but they work ok and do allow easy toe in adjustment.

Been there paul, twice.

i used new blocks with old hardware. as you say, and i found, the body of the canti is too thick with a larger hole. i just messed around with spares box odd and sods until i got them fitted and, hitting the rim at the correct angle. can be a bit of a puzzle with two-dozen spacers and washers all around you.

but, i don't know any off-the-shelf suppliers at the mo. i will keep looking though, only a matter of time before i need some.

with the existing exage washers either side of canti body. you have to slim the stack down after that to be able to get it all installed. more or less a success.

Thanks for those suggestions chaps.

I've tried some of the ones which are like the one's in the ebay link and the threaded stud hasn't been long enough to get the brakes set up as I'd like them.

Same problem with v-brake pads.

I might try with some road caliper pads, a longer bolt and the existing spacer washers.

two tricks i have used

1. if you can find them, the ritchey pads are very deep and have the fitting you need. i have a pair of red i'd let you have if any good.

2. use v brake pads with all the washers on the rim side of the brake. looks like poo but works ok. bit flexy but ok.
