Canti hanger for naff suspension fork?

So I've recently bought a cheap hack bike. And I've got several things I want to sort out, some are going to have to wait, though. And I don't want to spend a fortune, 'cos it's only a hack bike that I use when I have to lock one up outside, somewhere, so I don't want to get too attached.

It's a quite naff, and rather oddly put together Apollo Cafe 2 thingmy, with cheap and nasty front suspension forks on (that ideally I want rid of, but that will take new forks, new headset - 'cos the one that's on isn't long for this world). In the meantime, I have to live with it, and my main gripe at the moment, is the mismatch 'twixt brake lever and brakes. V-brakes all 'round, and odd lever / rapidfire combos that must be pre V-brake.

Now I have spare V-brake levers, but not gear shifters to match the 7 speed (screw on cassette). And I have a complete set of better 7 speed shifters and brake combos - but for cantis, and plenty of spare cantis lying around. But the frame (below the saddle) and the fork have no hangers for canti cables - probably not an issue at the back, I can probably find one somewhere. I have an old Tioga T-bone stem with an integrated hanger, or a (stem) clamp-on hanger, that are of little use, 'cos of the crappy sus-fork on it.

So are there any obvious answers to finding some kind of canti hanger that would work with some generic, crappy suspension fork, or is it all going to have to wait until I properly sort it out?

Does the fork brace have an obvious attachment point, threaded hole, or somesuch for the canti stopper to bolt to? If not it's probably easier to source the shifters.

Failing that try one of those 'rollamajig' things that adapt the cable pull so canti levers can pull a V-brake, they're not perfect but not bad.....I may have one somewhere.

It has a similar hole to that you'd find on rigid forks, there's a reflector, and the chromoplastic mudguards are bolted through.

Are there any sort of canti cable stops that would bolt into that, and remain sufficiently rigid / upright?

I think you may be right - I wouldn't mind some old school indexed thumbies, I think I still prefer them, really, in that they are a lot simpler and easier to look after. They do seem to sell for quite a lot, now, though.

Ahh, good point - I'd forgotten about them - I'll keep my eyes open.

If I'm honest, I'd like to keep the cantis on my Apex, but I suspect having already had to change the front to a V, it's somewhat inevitable.

I've nothing against Vs, really - I mean they make most sense on my hack bike, as there's no canti stops / hangers as is. It's just that on my Apex, it has stops front and back, and the only reason I'm being forced to Vs for it, is compatibility and the fact that rapidfire plus shifters seem to suffer from failures that more simple designs wouldn't.
