I have been thinking about building a bike for my daughter, rather than buying a islabike....

so the question is, if I buy a small retro frame, then get some 24" wheels, that will give me quite a small bike...

I can get some cranks with a shorter length made up, and fit some 24" forks.. to give me the correct canti pivots...
but on the frame the pivots wilol be wrong... so is there an off the shelf adaptor, or am I going to think able how to get one made??

or will this not work at all?

you get really quite good retro steeds with 24 inch wheels, have a search on the bay - they come up frequently enough. I've seen an alpinestars, a trek, 2 orange and a very small stumpy (with 26 inch wheels) all in the last 5 months. There is also a very nice Carver in the for sale section, but that is pricey in my book.

The main problem of using a 26 inch frame is the length of the top tube, it is usually too much for a youngster to reach.

Alternatively, I am making a jump bike for my son with a 24 inch rear and a 26 front. using rigid 26 inch forks on a hotrock24 frame, coming along nicely and the angles all seem good.
