Cannondale M800 stem options

Retro Newbie
Hi there,

New on here, first post.
I am looking to rebuild my Beast of the East which has been lying in the garage for 10 years.
Ideally I would like a shorter stem.
What are the options from the fixed one that came as standard?
If memory serves me right the fork is 1.25", 1 1/4"

Cheers

Stuart

not a lot m8
i bored out a gt one i had because it had enough meat on it
the other option is 1.5" stems and a shim

tho enid still has the o.e. stem from his bote

welcome btw ,im mikee

Mikee,
Thanks for the reply fellow Fifer
I am really looking for a solution that means I don't have to get rid of the Pepperonis as I want to keep it as original as possible.
Cheers

the 1.5" (modern) stem will allow you to do that m8
some of the fsa ones look okay and dont cost too much
then just get someone with a lathe to turn up a 1.25/1.5 shim

we mebee need a macretro cannondale day out

You should be able to find 1 1/4" quill stems with relative ease on Ebay, although it depends on how "short" of a stem you need. The Ahead versions are much harder to come by.

ahh
my BOTE is ahead

1.25" stems come up now and again in here
i do have a kalloy polished one if your interested

I'll throw this idea out just to hear what people think.

The inner diameter of a 1 1/4" threaded steerer is 1 1/8". How about bonding a length of 1 1/8" threadless steerer into the present steerer with say 40mm protruding. You can then clamp a modern (or retro) 1 1/8" Ahead stem to that steerer stub. The idea has retro credentials (early mountain bikes often used a 7/8" quill stub brazed into a 1" steerer) and would open up an enormous range of stem options.
