Cannondale M1000 Replacement Forks

Dirt Disciple
Hi,
I am new to the forum, I wonder if anyone can help me? I have purchased a 1992 Cannondale M1000, its a single speed conversion and my aim is to lower the weight a bit more by upgrading the present set up.
At the moment it is fitted with Rock Shox Judy C's, I intend to replace them with a rigid carbon forks, either Pace or Exotic, can anyone tell me which length fork I should fit ?
The bike is pretty rough right now so its hard to gauge how it rides on the Rock Shox set up, but they are 45cm axle to crown.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Many thanks...The present set up is using a cane creek headset and 1 1/8" steerer.
I would like to fit carbon's as I want to reduce weight as much as possible.

It seems I put this post in the wrong section..duhhhh...I dont seem to have a delete option in the edit....appologies for the error !

Many thanks
Steve

Don't worry, one of the Friendly Mods will move it

For the price, you'd be better off getting the Alu Pepperonis above and saving the few grams you'd get from Carbon units, elsewhere e.g. saddle, pedals, tyres?

Plus, restoring the 'Dale with its original spec'd fork would look better?

EDIT: Says here the Pepperonis are only 1.4lbs anyways!

Thanks for the information..it would seem that the Exotic carbons and the Alu Pepperonis are the same weight..and as you say a cheaper option too ! ....so I will have a go those on *bay !!

Are there adaptors available to enable an 1 1/8" stem to be used on 1 1/4" steerers ?

Many thanks
Steve

There are for sure, I just did a quick Google on "Stem Shim" and got quite a few matches!

Is it a "Devolution" style headset in the frame at the moment then i.e. 1 1/4" > 1 1/8"?

The headset that is fitted now is a Cane Creek S3 1 1/18" . As far as I know Cane Creek S3 didnt come in "devolution style", so I figure its just a standard 1 1/8" headset...you will have to excuse my lack of knowledge, I am still pretty knew to these rebuilds/upgrades.

The only thing against using the Cannondale forks is the lack of choice regarding headsets and stems...the shim would solve the stem problem though :)

You won't be able to shim that one bud, it's a threadless (Ahead) steerer so you will need an evolution headset and stem so as you say choice is very limited.

If you get a pepperoni with a threaded steerer then you'll find you have many more option, and they'll be much cheaper, you can pick up XT headset NOS for about £25 and there are loads much cheaper and a bunch way more expensive also if you fit and adaptor (which'll cost you about £5) you'll be able to fit any 1 1/8 stem you like.

Staf.

Cheers Staf...well I rekon it's the threaded version then, or just go for the Exotic rigid carbons as originally intended, at least headset choice is hugely improved then.

The bike will be far from standard when finished anyway so I am not bothered about keeping it in original trim fork wise, I just want to shed as much weight as I can on a fairly limited budget :) . It weighs in at 22 1/4 right now, the fork change alone will shed about 2 1/2 lbs minimum...so sub 20 is no problem as there is scope for more weight loss on other components too.

Cheers
Steve

Go for the Pepperoni's! Here's my M600 singlespeed. It weighed in at 20.8 lbs. I regret the day I sold it!
