Cannondale M1000 1991 Build ( Cannondale 1MB )

Hi

The Cannondale M1000 that I just bought off here has arrived ( Thanks Veritas_rs ) and is a real Stunner and fork and frame only weighs 2.2KG !!
Was trying to work out how to build this frame up and was thinking of going light weight with some XTR but then when searching the Internet for build ideas for the Cannondale m1000 from 1991 I saw that in 1991 they built the Cannondale M1000 up with Campagnolo components and called it the Cannondale 1MB Seeing as I have the campag parts ( which were for sale but now going on this build :facepalm: ) and also a NOS Scott A2. I have decided to go with this build.
Hoping it will ride nice even if it will be a bit heavy than I was planning on building...
Hopefully more photos of the build over the weekend ....

Cool project and cool idea for builting it with campy.
Firstly, until 1991, the Cannondale MTB were named "SM" not "M".
Your frameset was sold alone : you could choose between the grey jet fighter (yours) and the black-blue pearl. It's why there's no SM100 written on the toptube.
For an 1MB, you have to find the blue Campagnolo decals

Thanks for the info I was wondering why there was no M1000 decals.
That's a very nice 1MB your friend has... This build will not be 100 percent original but will be semi close with full campagnolo. Hoping to get some decals from Gil

And…seems to be a Beast of the East 3.0 frame : sloping frame with high BB, like the 1991 SM800
The 1MB was Top level 3.0 frame

I am pretty sure it is a M1000 as it does not look like the M800 I used to have ? Maybe above photo is wonkey lol . I will put some photos up of the frame with Wheels on it soon ....
Checked the catalog and it was only the M1000 that came in this colour

I think you are right about it being a M800 Beast of the East frame :facepalm:
Bottom bracket is 31 cm from the ground which is quite a bit higher than my M600....
Does anyone know the BB height of the 1991 M1000 frames and m800 Frames ...
Sticking with original plan and will build up with campagnolo parts and Syncros stem is being changed to a period correct |Girvin Flexstem also have a campagnolo seat-post which will be added instead of the current seat-post

It's a detail but all C'dale MTB were called "SM" until 91
So only "M" bugan in 1992

Build finished unfortunatly no photos of the actual build as it ended up getting built up in one go.
Still not sure about the frame as I just saw an add for the Canniondale 1MB and the frame in this link looks to be the same as my frame ?

I am happy with end result and bike looks and feels great..I have not taken it for a good spin yet but will get out and ride it next week
