Evening all, has anyone any tips for setting up Force 40 brakes properly?

My Dale has Xt low profile cantis and the 1st time I set them up it went right 1st time but having just changed wheels I cant get the damn things right.

They arent quite rubbing the rim and stop the bike great but with no pull at the lever one side is much further from the rim than the other, and the tension screw doesnt seem to make any difference.

Any ideas?

Cheers :D

i played with them loads years ago, even had the tektro one on my sunn, there is a nack but i could do it but not describe it  the best bet is to open the cantis out a bit and extent the pads in a bit more than usual :D

I just got a set from Pickle last week

After a quick look at they are now snug in the bottom of my kit box

V's , they way forward

Chris I think you just talked yourself into a job on Sunday

That sounds familiar  .....they're finicky little buggers, either spot on or absolute garbage........a lot of patience and attention to detail and you'll get there......else you'll end up throwing them in the garden

What you want to achieve is a starting point where your cantis are sitting at about 11 & 1 o'clock but more importantly the angle you need to achieve with your 'straddle wire' is 90 degrees. Once that's right, adjust your pads & 'trim' with the spring adjuster screws on your cantis.

Here's what I mean (sorry for the play-school pic  )
