Can you use gear cables as brake cables ?

Trying to come up with a way of converting a lever to pull two cables, the nipple on a gear cable is smaller than the pear shaped (road) brake cable, would the nipple on the gear cable take the stress of braking ?

I wouoldn't risk it - they way differ by a little in diameter but think of cross-section whcih is related to diameter squared. I've had 2 brake cables snap on me ...,

You want a single brake lever to pull two brake cables?

Ta-Daaa!!!

Pretty sure there are other options out there too, I remember seeing a gizmo that fitted into the cable stops on the frame too and used une cable from the lever to pull two cables at the cable stops.

Cheers ! I've seen those both before, I'm running cantilevers so the promax is out, I'm thinking of using a MT62 lever with a few modifications to try to keep it looking stock, in the past I've used the in line devices, the bike polo boys are very helpful, Paul components make a duo lever as well which is very nice!
I'll have to look at sticking with the standard road (pear shaped) cables and see if that will work.

A disabled friend of mine had a pair of brake cables running from one nipple for his road sti units . Can't remember how the cable ends were modified though

Ok off the wall suggestion. A two finger and a four finger right next to each other, two finger outside and under so you could pull four finger or both?

Ok stupid but?
