Can I convert my rear wheel to fixed?

Hi guys,

my daily rider is seven speed shimano cassette. Is it possible to get it converted to fixed ? I am a bit unsure with it not being screw on if it is actually possible and how it can be done. Bike is horizontal dropout.

not cheap tho and you would probably still need to buy a solid axle and nuts rather than the existing hollow axle and QR

Yeah, not cheap.... for the price you'd be better off just buying a cheap fixie from some disillusioned hipster on eBay!!

Mind you, it does come with all the necessary bits and pieces, like axles and lock nuts and whatnot to make it work.

I can't vouch for the Surly version, but I did use something similar by HED which was half the price (albeit FAR too many years ago....) and it worked a treat!!

Stick loads of cable ties round the big sprocket and through the spokes. What could go wrong?

They are a set of spacers that slide on to the Shimano splines and you use them to get the sprocket inline with the chain ring. Not sure which one is going to be compatible with your splines because I'm not well-up with the new splined cassettes , but I think anything made from about 1998 onwards uses the same splines. Loads of people on here can confirm though

if you have access to welding , just weld the freewheel solid and job done .

this would make is it single speed but it'll still freewheel (I'd prefer that myself) so not a fixed wheel conversion

All a waste of money when you can try for nowt.
Ask your local bike shops for knackered cassettes. I wanted 1 or 2 and came away with a bucket full. Break them all up. Choose the least knackered sprocket of the size you want. With all the spacers you have fill the gaps on the free hub, putting the chosen cog where its needs to be for a straight line. A touch of wear in the chain etc will help. or try a cheap 1/8th" bmx chain. when you find a gear you like, buy a single cog. Try LFGSS forum for bits. You won't need a solid axle if you have decent strong QR's. All this way will cost is handcleaner after messing will filthy cassettes
