Can Gripshift work with Shimano mechs?

Building a bike up for my other half, her first proper one, and she loves Gripshift from her Raleigh Manta. I've got some decent 8 speed Gripshifters spare (like these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gripshift-MRX-8-s ... 286.c0.m14)
but was wondering if they will work fine with modernish (M760) Shimano XT derailleurs? I dislike Gripshift and so have no idea!
Thanks.

I'm not sure on the newer stuff but the older stuff is compatible. There were lots of bikes made in the mid 90's w/ GS/Shimano drivetrains, including a buddy's Trek and my Kona. I now have a Klein w/ XRay 8sp shifters and a 737 XT derailleur and it works fine.

I think so - you just have to watch out for the 1:1 actuation ones which aren't compatible.
Yep, you are right. All Sram derailleurs are 1 to 1 ratio, whist shimano are 2 to 1.

Just check the box to see the ratio, or if it says shimano compatible.

Be careful, the MRX style has set screw mountings instead of pinch clamps. I cracked a set of carbon bars with screw mounts. The Attack style are really good. This Centera right side is really good and light weight with clamp style. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SRAM-RIGHT-HAND-G ... .m20.l1116
