Campagnolo .......... Teach me

I've always been a Shimano man, so know the difference between 105, 600, Dura ace , the years and so on.

But I've just purchased a 753 Castorama Raleigh Dyna-Tech and want to put Campagnolo on it.

I know I want delta callipers but the rest is a mystery to me, C-Record, Chorus Athena and so on.
What's the difference between years (the frame is a 90 so want to keep with that) Gen 1, 2 and so on.
What's the difference between synchro , index and or both together

Any help would be great

If you want a Fignon Replica bike 1989 TDF then a 7 speed C-Record groupset Friction shifters R/Hand one is Simplex L/Hand one Record. Deltas would be correct with Time Magnesium silver coloured pedals.
in 1990 Lemond Z team were using 8 Speed index shifters (NOT ERGO"S) but down tube. Rear hub was the C-Record Cassette type. The rear gear was the first series C-record 8 Speed Index type ( different to the older 7 speed friction rear gear). I don't know if Castorama were using the same up.
I hope thats of some help.

If it's a 753 frame then it won't be a dyna tech.....dyna tech frames has there own tube sets. If it is a standard brazed lugged frame then Defo not a dyna tech. Is this the team frame that I have seen for sale recently?

If it is the 1990 version then I believe that it should have c-record on it, with the synchro set up. Castorama subsequently changed to Shimano after that, possibly 1992?.

The simplex lever on one side and c record on the other, I have never seen that set up, it's a new one on me but it could well have been the case as the first synchro setups were terrible by all accounts. However my Athena synchro of this time never gave me any bother.....

Thanks for these guys, I'm not sure if I will do an exact rep a such I was more wanting to find out the differences between the different campag parts and how tell if what I buy is period correct.

And the difference between the different type of gear shifters (I know friction and index, but they seem to do a cross and a syncro and index ?)

As for the frame it is a dyna-tech 753 same as the one on here

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=164902&start=0

and on the 2nd page there is a pic of LF on a 753 Dyna-tech, the one I have bought has a SB frame number and then on the other side what looks like OBC.B2.90 ?

It's a common error but it's worth noting that Campagnolo stopped calling their Record group C-Record in 1985 and parts made after this were simply called 'Record'. Therefore there was never a C-Record 8-speed hub as 8-speed didn't arrive until 1990.

I didn't know that they stopped calling it C-Record but looks like your 100% correct after checking the Campagnolo Catalogues. it just goes to show your never to old to learn something new. ;) ;)

Also whats the difference between Syncro and index and what are all the differenr colour inserts for, seen blue red and black.
