Campag C Record brakes for Non Aero set up

I am preparing my Stan Pike for the Eroica Germania ride and changed the Ergo shifters to downtube Synchro levers. I have some Campag brake levers model BL02RE from another project. My issue is that the levers have a barrel which the cable end fits into and the barrel is in slots so it slides.

When used in a non aero set up with the cables out the top of the hoods, this barrel slides back as you brake which reduces the effectiveness of the brakes. What am I missing to stop the barrel sliding?

I don't think they're intended for use as non-aero levers. The fact that they have the same body as the older levers is probably just to save them making a different part.

The dual purpose levers had a little removable plate and a rotating cable retainer.

Thanks for the responses. I have purchased some 1st gen c-record levers and will sell the bl02re set.
