Camelbacks or Water bottle

Should all Retro bikes have water bottles?
I just hate spending a small fortune on getting the bike lighter than air and then sticking two liters of water on it. So i use a camel back. But the new backs are not as good as the old ones.
Does any one still have the 1st generation 'backs'?

I find it a faff cleaning out my 'bak so use a water bottle for shorter rides and keep the bak for longer ones > 2hrs

Assuming that you are on the bike when you're riding it, it makes no difference to the 'all-in' weight whether its carried on the bike or on your back.

There are some that would suggest that by carrying the water on the bike, you're distributing the weight lower and therefore the centre of gravity, thus increasing the stability of the bike. They may be idiots though.

Personally I don't know how I coped without my 'mule'.

Allways used to have 2 bottles back in the day, however when i look at bikes now with them i can't help thinking that they look wierd..they seem to upset the lines if you know what i mean.
Hydration pack for me every time, so usefull and you can fit tools for every job in, not to mention loads of food

Camelbaks for me. They are very retro actually, I have a report form a bicycle magazine from 1989 or 1990 I think. All Camelbaks and the likes were boxy and did not have padded straps yet. I bought a compromise: a square, military version of the 'Bak Mule. Looks retro, but fits snug and comfy.

Bak all the time. I still have the old bak rucksack thing but the catheter bit died years ago. Fits a U lock, wallet, keys and a cool tool though, just perfect for popping into town with!

Use a new CmaelBak rogue now. Top draw!

baks off road. Though for racing, think they are a bit shite as you get hot and they are restrictive and you don't need the volume of liquid or spare frame etc.
