Calling cannondale know-all’s!

The additional info that keeps getting added to this thread is fascinating....thanks and I have to admit you guys are great!

Started to strip the bike today to give it a good clean.
Only had chance to have a go at the frame, hopefully will get round to more bits tomorrow.
Although the frame has chips across it and scratches it’s crack free and has come up well with a de grease and a going over with some t cut.
Everything seems to work just needs cleaning thoroughly and a good soak with wd40 to get things going again.
I did notice that the cassette is a shimano 600, I thought they were road bike stock, I may be wrong.
Ive come to the decision that I’m not going to strip it for parts but get it all back together, cleaned up and working. I’m quite encouraged how the frame has come up under all the dirt. Just need to get the heat gun to remove the chainstay protectors and the huge “swatch” abomination.

Quite excited to see how this turns out.

Russ

That's a freewheel, not a cassette.
;-)
It was new in '86 and was the new SIS version, XT did have SIS components at this point.

There was far more road/mtb crossover then than now - we used road blocks/cassettes, road mechs (I used 105 short mech even for big range x3 set ups, just needed to be careful with which gear you were in), sugino road cranks (very strong and very light), and of course Keith B re-rolled road rims to make excellent, light, strong wheel sets.
