Calculating spoke length

I guess that for wheel building "instructions" everyone has their own favourites - FWIW this is mine! I've found it easiest to follow methodically - especialy for correctly positioning the valve hole.

Im still not sure on what rim to go for.... I want somthing cheap but thats making me think possibly go for something used or NOS thats now the same price as a new rim but a bit better?
