Cable stops and V´s

I did a very similar thing to mine, but had a few cheapy brake barrel adjusters lying around, i had to increase the hole size a bit, but luckily had the drill bits and tap to hand, and all loks very professional, the above was inspirational for me ot do mine, as i didnt want any odd looking addion to my frame.

That was also my main concern along with wanting to put it back to canti's without any frustration

BTW, Mech cable guides are M5 same as the allen bolt in the original guide

Turn up a piece of steel, drill 1/8" then counter bore 1/4" x 1/4 deep. Part off to length and de-burr. Cut slot. File a small flat or curve to fit the top tube and offer it up. Remove the paint from the top tube where you intend fitting the new stop. Degrease both parts and mix up some flux. Wire the new stop in place using mig wire or the like. Apply heat and silver solder your new stop in place. Clean up with needle files and emery cloth. Re paint and away you go.
I have got as far as making the stop. I will post pictures when I have succeeded in burning a hole in my top tube. How hard can it be?????

OK, cables stops found and measured:

30.0mm Dog Collar:

28.6 and 31.8mm Tektro clamp-ons:

£10 for the dog collar, £2.50 for each clamp-on. PM if you're interested.

"How hard can it be?" Well quite hard if the last time you did any brazing was at school. Made a bit of a pigs ear of it but a bit of filing and it will look OK. It is certainly attached.

Need to have a bit more practice at this....

After rereading you thread, after i did mine (cuz i didnt read it properly) i could have saved a bit of hassle, but still the same result, if going back to canti's, will just need an M6 bolt instead of the standard M5

Well done for having a go. What did you use for heat?

I used a TIG. Probably easier with a flame. I am not a good welder - not ennough practice.
