A pair of pliers with wire cutter and a hammer to hit them with and you'll get a nice clean cut on th inner cable. I use an angle grinder to cut the outer cable without crushing it and to get a nice square end to it. Make sure you don't get it too hot and melt the plastic liner though.

what is the name of them knipex cutters?

seems there is a 125, 160 and 180 mm diagonal side cutter?, is this what im after, i and why cant they call it a cable cutter, oh and what size

Just get these, identical to Knipex (my Knipex have red handles, but I now use these Pedros at work)

We've been using these for the past year to cut copper rope. I used them on the weekend to cut the cables and outers and they were still bloody sharp. Fairly cheap I think.

Same here. After I couldn't cut through a set of Jag Wires recently, I've taken to using a cut-off wheel in the Dremel.

Update on this subject

I just bought a set of bike cable cutters from 'bill's tool store' in Glasgow[those from the city will know who this is]tried them out on brake and gear cables and also both outers,they cut cleanly and without fraying
