Buying advice for a small child bike.

Re:

Bought my kids Islabike S/H mint for £235 and sold it mint and fast for £250. Free cycling is good. Always took big hits on her other bikes.

Re:

I was about to post that I think a SH Islabike is probably depreciation proof if you look after it.

But you've gone one better and actually proven you can make a profit on one...

They really are cracking little bikes and the custom made parts for little hands and light weight are a real seller. Let's face it we are all into custom builds so appreciate these finer details. I took big hits on her two previous Disney bikes as both ended up in charity shops

Shame you're in manchester, I've got 2 16" bikes and a 20" I'd be happy to give away, but, well, y'know, France.

Have you thought about freecycle?

Thanks for the offer!
The one we want seems to sell used for £40 quite often but it's just waiting for one local. Just can't afford to buy a used Islabikes for £150+ at the moment.

That's something I was looking at getting into, but I was surprised at the Halfords (Carrera) and Decathlon bikes that already have some pretty good parts for smaller hands etc.

Re: Re:

You don't need to be spending hundreds of pounds. Kids bikes end up at the tip, or in skips. Ask around (school / nursery, for example) and you'll probably be able to get a carcass of some description for free. The main problem with kids bikes once (you've got past the totally BSO range with plastic hubs and bearings) is the brakes - plastic levers and resin cast vbrakes are common - replace those, repaint if necessary, grease up the moving bits, and you're golden.

What is a challenge is getting hold of Islabike custom parts from the manufacturers or other suppliers direct. Islabike won't sell you spares etc without proof you have one of their bikes etc

Lol, how do you prove it?

A signed affidavit may be required !! Maybe you could source these custom parts with your contacts and supply the rest of us
