Buying a TV- Curry's electrical

What is this TV of which you speak? Is it like a magic lantern, or perhaps a wireless with pictures?

I'm off to wind up the gramophone. :P

Currys are rubbish. My Dad moved in to a new flat a couple of months ago and went to Currys to pick up a few appliances he needed. When he asked about doing a discount for buying multiple items he was told "we don't do deals or discounts". What happened to the days of haggling in the electrical store over the price of goods?

As for Smart TVs I don't see the point, the technology just isn't there yet. The interfaces all seem really slow and laggy and try to type with the TV remote is annoying as hell.
Much better to stick with Internet on a proper device for the time being. Sky, Virgin and some freeview boxes have all the catchup stuff anyway.

Despite their better hearing, a decent sound seems to be a male thing.

No; 'Hi-Fi' is a marketing term aimed at seducing insecure egotistical men who believe that owning summat better than the next man makes them superior. Women just aren't interested in the willy waving.

Having said that; even a basic amp and speakers set-up is vastly superior to most 'soundbar' type things. In the Great Technological Revolution, we'll be getting a DAC, amp and some nice speakers. We'd really like a nice telly to go with it, but it seems things are made to a pricepoint, rather than a quality standard.

Annoyingly, ITV only supply their catch-up service with Samsung tellies. My better half loves her Corrie, so I'm trying to figure a way round that issue. I'm not going to buy a Samsung just cos of this; the ones I've seen in shops are inferior to Panasonic and Sony models.

iPad/Apple TV/Airplay?
Humax box's have ITV player, even my old FoxSat-HDR, the newer Freetime boxes do all the main channels. The Freeview versions are the same.

If you have a dish or don't mind putting one up I would go FreeSat.

An internet tv is a proper device for watching, er, internet tv? Not encountered any worse performance yet over a 3g phone, desktop pc, decent laptop or a couple of cheapy tablets. The tv I just bought interface is just as quick as my sky box so far.

I love the NFC function too. Am gonna play with that and some devices to see what goes with what

shopped at curries once for a t.v. system. When we had a problem and phoned up I had to give the sales assistant a dressing down for talking over the top of me.made no difference as he was not bothered one way or the other and carried on.Cant say I have ever had to deal with such total ignorance before or since from any shop. That branch has now closed down and rightly too. It is a company that I would not deal with again

I bought a digibox in the Summer from Currys in Farnborough and got shirty when they insisted on my name and address so they could pass it on to the TV Licensing police.

I gave my name as Sebastian James (CEO Of Currys) and then gave the address of their HQ in Hemel Hempstead.

I left with a big fat, smirky, smug grin on my face thinking of the CEO getting a demand for his TV licence.

Small things bring a smugness to my chubby cheeks.

Tell them to piss off and tell then you have a license and if they want it to be checked before you pay for the box. Tell them its their responsibility to make an appointment with your office and youre time is expensive so also ask for the billing address

To be fair I don't think that's a Currys thing. It seems anywhere, any time you buy a device that enables you to watch the telly box they have to ask for your address to pass on to the licence people.
