This is the second set of Stumpjumper bullmoose-style bars that I have had with fillet-looking weld work, and I'm still not sure if they are truly fillet-brazed or if the welds have been ground smooth. They are stamped 'MOUNTAINBIKES SPECIALIZED' on the stem in a similar font to my mid-'80s Ritchey Timber Comp. Does anyone know the lineage of these? Did Ritchey braze these for Specialized for a period of time, or are they just nicely welded copies? The Stumpjumper was a very late 1982, according to the serial number.
The Timber Comp has high-rise tig-welded bars (chrome), and I'm going to give these a try as I'd like to get a bit lower and more forward on it. If they were made by Ritchey, I might blast them and have them painted to match my frame, finding fillet Ritchey bars is impossible! Did everyone throw them out in the late '80s and early '90's or what? I see plenty of old Ritcheys on the forums, but not so many with matching bullmoose bars, I always wondered if the style just fell out of favor as MTB's began to 'modernize'.
