Budget discs

I have been told by a couple of unbiased mechanics to avoid avids like the bubonic plague.
Constantly needing attention to recentre the pads ,they are also needing bled more often than most, and some problem where you cant bleed them with the pads in.
I'd stick to Hope or Formula, they seem to have the best consistent reviews.

I believe CRC has the tech X2 for £212 pair[no rotors/mounts]
You can pick up rotors/mounts far cheaper than new on ebay
No doubt you have a few kicking about.
Saves a pretty penny on the overall cost too

£150 is a fair price for decent brakes these days, but for that little more on your outlay, they higher end stuff starts
I think that works out a better deal[especially if you have to let them go,for some reason]

I stuck to Hope :D

Tight fit on the shifters but thats down to the badly placed windows,i reckon plain XT ones with fit no problem
The lever are very nice and they look quite robust but sleek at the same time.I think this lever is used in the X2 V2 X4 etc with only the calliper changing,,at least hope is sticking to a proven formula :D
The calliper is pretty simple looking but is sculptured all nice 8),well set out with a better placed banjo and bleed nipple[drip free].
It says you load the pads in from the top so you dont need to remove the wheel.
Its post mount and they have elongated holes that make fitting easier, you dont need shims, slide to adjust, then tighten up.
I havent used them yet, they come back Wed,ill give you an update when ive tried them out.
The only downside i can see so far,is the hassle with the shifters :?

[Hoses are being cut shorter  ]

I've also heard that cable systems can be off/on? Little modulation.

I run Hayes MX-2's on my Voodoo (susser) and Identiti (HT) and there's plenty of modulation and power.

I have picked up a set of Gusset's (dual action) but have yet to fit them.
I just bought them to see if they're as good a some people say.

It was a review of the MX-2's that mentioned plenty power but less modulation. It was a user submitted one mind...

dyna I have hopes on my Salsa and they are plenty good,*too good in fact after I grabbed a handful  ) Because the bike is singlespeed and rigid summat a little less is needed.
