Brooks Competition???

I don't know where this saddle fits in the Brooks line up as I am not familiar with this version, it's mid 1970's. There is a lot of conflicting information out there, obviously a race saddle, nice and narrow with bag loops with a textured upper surface and a trimmed back nose, it looks like "not quite a Professional". I have read that it is a version of a B-17N, or a version of a B-5N, or an OEM seat on certain Raleigh's or Carlton's?
Anyways I got a deal on the bay of lost souls, now I own one a little nicer than the photo below. Any ideas or experience with this saddle???

I had one of these on my Raleigh Nimrod, that was an all steel 5 speed low end bike so that fits with the OEM idea.

It was over 30 years ago so can't remember if it was comfy or not but I certainly never thought about changing it.

very much like the regular Brooks - B17 I think with the vent holes.
Very VERY comfortable.
Have similar one on my carlton
Get a standard generic or raleigh saddle rail clamp

Re:

Thanks Ibbz and Daccordimark for the information, and sharing your experiences with this saddle. Your comments have cleared up a lot of the confusion about what I have purchased.
I ordered a big tin of Proofide so when it shows up I can start to get it ready for use after its 40+ years of sitting on a shelf in someone's garage, other than shelf rash it's in almost unused condition.

Thanks Again For Your Help: Mike

Blackbike-

My brother has one of those and prefers the comfort of it to the same period Brooks Pro that he has as well. The leather is slightly thinner than the Pro's and seems to conform better. You might want to try black shoe polish on the top followed by clear polish to seal the colour with the Proofide on the bottom.
