Well... in about a month I can finally cancel my contract with BT for my internet connection so am now looking into other options, speed and how much I can download etc are things that can be checked online. However the bit I want to know about reliability and customer service when something goes wrong. So what providers does everybody use and the good and bad bits? I've been with virgin before and would say that the customer service was on the whole good however the connection wasn't hugely reliable and a pay BT about the same for a meg connection as I was virgin for 2. That said when I set everything up with BT I have never know such a mess with billing etc for something so simple. I'm a hard chap to please so I want something fast and reliable and reasonably priced

I use Virgin cable and in 6 years the connection's been down about 4 hours in total - most of which was one evening about a year ago. Rarely if ever have to contact customer support.

plus 1 for virgin, O2 are shit, spent a month on there tech support to try and get an engineer out, but they kept making excuses, cancelled with them and went fibre optic, havent looked back

Tiscali (now TalkTalk) were good at the start but the connection drops a few times a day now and, by the end of July, the monthly bill will have gone up from £16 to £24...

I should've stayed with BT. . . who I would recommend wholeheartedly.. ..

Dont use Orange...

Why oh why when you call customer service do you have to go through 500 menu's takes 10 mins min just to get through to someone.

BTW Is there such a thing as a good internet supplier?.

My BT bill was only £26/month all-in..

Soon, for a less reliable service, Talk will be £24.. and they charge me for 0845

Customer service is far too inconsistent with any company to be able to compare.. my BT experience was faultless over the 4 years I was with them, Talk answer questions that I haven't asked while not answering what I did ask. Some of their departments are only contactable by phone too..
And their broadband contracts are 18months... which is nothing to do with CS but important if you aren't having a good time with them.
