Breaking down wheels once rims are worn out

I need to break down a pair of 26" wheels in order to retrieve the hubs and bin the worn-out rims & spokes.
What's the recommended method?
Do people cut spokes out, or do they undo each of them with a spoke wrench?

Sorry, bit of a noob question.

if the only thing your after is the hubs and the spokes/rims are shot then I normally just cut the spokes

I would., just undo them bit by bit as I've seen what it can do to hope hubs if you snip them...
Snip of any causing trouble though.
It doesn't take long to gently ease the tension.

What's wrong with the spokes? If you're planning to reuse the hubs, tape a new rim to the side of the old one, move the spokes over one at a time, chuck the old rim, tension and true :)

(Obviously if you're just moving the hubs on this is a rubbish idea ;) )

I undo spokes with a spoke key then use an electric screwdriver with a flat bit to undo the nipple from the end.

just remember to take the cassette of first - many dont!

How many times have I seen hubs for sale on ebay with the cassette still attached and bits of spoke, as they've taken the wheel apart by cutting the spokes and not taken off the cassette.
