Brakes Question

I am building up a Marin Bobcat Trail into a single speed and wondered if anyone has tried using the single lever, dual brake system that you get on some BMX's.
Setup would be interesting as I would have to build in some lag between back and front but before I get stuck in - has anyone tried before with any sucsess?

Cheers

I have seen this set up on various bikes for people who have lost a hand or an arm .

Done it on my tandem - you need to get the front to come on slightly before the back, although on the tandem there is so much cable stretch that the back is pretty mushy anyway.

You'd lose a lot (all ?) of the sublety required for tight, technical, greasy descents and other stuff like that.

I don't think I'd fancy it at all.... :!:

Not a good idea, in my opinion. You don't want the front brake on in the middle of a turn, as it will make the bike want to stand up and not steer so easily. Using the back brake through the turn will slow you down and leave the front wheel more freedom to maneuver. Also, in really tight 180 degree switchbacks, it is sometimes helpful to lock the back wheel and skid it around the turn.
