Brake levers, help needed

currently rebuilding a GT timberline for singlespeed dutys and want to ditch the nasty brake/lever combo

It is fitted with canti's, can i fit v brake levers? Have read they have different leverages. are cantis classed as linear or direct pull? there seems to be conflicting info around

"Linear pull" and "direct pull" are both synonyms for V-brakes.

"V-brake" is a Shimano trademark, so other manufacturers tend to use different terminology. Confusingly, you'll also sometimes read things like "direct pull cantilever" or "linear pull cantilever" describing a V-brake, because a V-brake is a kind of cantilever.

All that aside, you need to match the brake to the lever, or the lever to the brake. V-brakes need a long-pull lever. Traditional cantilever brakes need a shorter pull.
