bottom bracket problem - help please.

This might be a stupid question, but here goes:

I'm trying to remove the bottom bracket from a Scott and have found the bb seems to be in backwards.

I couldn't move the nds so tried the drive side which promptly unscrewed easily but was just a lockring.

Does that mean I have pulled the driveside end off the bb or was it installed the wrong way round. Can you even do that?

I have seen the odd bb design where the cup is weirdly on the drive side so you may have one of those.

If you've removed a lock ring from the drive side then try and remove the cup on that side, it should still undo by turning clockwise though, after that then try and remove the non drive side anti clockwise.

What make/model/year frame? Same for BB.

Have you cintacted Scott?

Dont go mental trying to undo the cups until you know exactly what you are dealing with if you do not want to damage the frame.

Btw Ive not come across rh threaded drive side cups but since ive worked on maybe 30 bikes, that is too small a sampkr for me to say they do not exist.

Is that just Italian threaded? I thought this just afflicted road bikes?

I've heard (but not seen) of bikes where the threads have been reversed.
Either some one has threaded them the wrong way in the factory (it'd have to be a low volume frame, high volume would most likely be machine cut)
Or in the case of cf, the insert bonded in the wrong way round.

The low end Shimano have the fixes cup on the other side. I'm assuming that what you mean by wrong way around and not the threading direction.

Bit you would see the fixed cup flange stop on it.

Not all setups used that and some just had cups either side and no stops. So either side would move and chainline could be adjusted. Not shimano though.

I had a 1992 frame with a mid range shimano cartridge that went in 'the wrong way round' - whatever that year used fior 4/500LX chainsets
