Bottom Bracket Cable Routing (Diamond Back)

Hello,

I am just starting a running restoration of a (1990?) Diamond Back.

The cable routing under the bottom bracket is unfamiliar to me. I am used to seeing a plastic gadget that guides the cables around the BB shell. This bike appears to have plastic tunnels that... hold the cable right on the metal shell? Wait, really?

It appears to have been set up this way by the previous owner (who didn't much care for the bike, having scratched off all the stickers)

Here are pictures - is this right? Should there be some sort of liner in there that stops the cable from cutting into the paint? Is this thing just plain wrong? Backwards? Help!

The cable goes through a short flexible tube (inside the cable guide), which has a cap on each end. There is also a flat piece that goes between the tube and frame. All of this fits into the part you have.

If anything is missing you can just use a standard cable guide.
