Once again guys I need some advice. I have a 96 Kona and I am trying to replace the BB. Now then I read a few articles on the web of "How to" and read that the BB Cup in this case plastic cup should be on the non drive side of the bike. This is not the case with my 96' Kona. The plastic cup is on the drive side and the metal side is on the non drive side, so what do I hit 1st? and is this normal or has the BB been put in the wrong way round! I would have thought impossible due to the thread!

I have tried to undo both sides, they are firm, any advice on bike position, method, tricks on removing a FIRM BB then fire away...

Any advice, welcome..

Sounds like that has been fitted incorrectly. Metal side should deffo be on the drive side.
I would soak it with Plusgas....and get some BIG leverage on it. Oh, and I would start with the metal side first.

bottom brackets

Some early Shimano cartridge units were this way round,un51 springs to mind, you would have to be very daft and very strong to wind both sides in the wrong way round.I still have a couple of these bottom brackets around somewhere,so dont panic, your frame is ok,just an unusual bottom bracket fitted. :D :D

Sounds like it's an Altus BB to me. They were the most commonly available ones of this type. Originally the front mech was mounted on the BB but they had a tendency to come loose. Later ones were changed to the 'normal' way round.

When removing just make sure to undo the plastic cup first as this makes it easier to undo the BB itself.

If it's on the driveside then clockwise as you are facing it. The easiest way to remember is that you turn the spanner towards the front wheel to undo it and towards the rear to tighten it.

ok I'm half way there, the drive side plastic cup has been removed it was clockwise to undo!

So.. does this mean the the non drive side "metal" will be oposite thread like the replacment? so to undo counter-clockwise????

Sorry if I'm being thick here!!!
