Bonded titanium vs Welded Titanium?

Hey! This was a 2080 tubeset, apparently equvalent to Reynolds 753 - and guess what, there is no butting!, it's a plain guage tube

Well according to the RSP marketing it should be butted!
But they also clearly indicate that their 2070 main tubes were equivalent to bonded 653 & stronger than 2060 / 531, which conflicts with what cce & numerous web results show 653 was 531 main tubes with 753 stays

bikemeister2000 where are you?

well perhaps it is butted, hmm... the down tube (from my Pro) is so thin at the BB end that it seems impossible for it to get any thinner, - there's certainly no internal 'step'. But looking at it again, the headtube end is slightly thicker, so I guess that would be 'single butted'.... :)

Can someone clarify what 653 tubing is please, I'm finding all kinds of contradictions on t'net. Reynolds states that it uses light guage 531 main tubes and 725 Cr-Mo rear stays ..so not 753. No mention of heat treatment.
Several other references claim it's exactly the same as 753 with out HT..

that's the name given to the Ti fames, MT3, MT4 - it refers to the titanium main tubes which are seamed, 'Commercially-Pure' Ti
..The jury's still out on exactly what the rear stays are!

ok, I was looking at the tables above mentioning the 2070, and was wondering.

And a related question, the MT5 - the metal matrix? What was this composed of?
And how did it compare to the Ti tubes (or to a reynolds 853 for that matter)

XMT100 metal matrix main tubes, originally developed by BP for the aerospace industry - aluminium alloy reinforced with silicon carbide whiskers (similar to Specialized M2/3/4/5 tubing).
Stiffer, lighter & more durable than the 2125 Ti used in MT4 & MT3 hence it's use by the Raleigh Pro riders.

Thanks guys, I've been browsing page after page on the Dyna Tech appreciation thread and it has answered ALL of my concerns and questions!
I must say, that IS a brilliant thread - I'll bump that one up.
