Bonded titanium vs Welded Titanium?

Thanks guys, it's much clearer now!

These bikes do look tempting and I am going to get...one
but now I'm completely confused.
a) I might not win the ebay item
b) Someone else'll snap up lozk's bike.

And for sure, i'm on the lookout for a full welded Torus framed Raleigh...

I'd take a Dynatech over an Mtrax everyday just for the added retro purity factor

Arrgghh!!!

What do I do?

As I've just seen this;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Raleigh-Dyna- ... 23242355b2

How's this compare to the M-Trax 1995 Team Edition with series 2 Titanium bonded frame Lozk is selling??

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/u ... 0.JPG.html

The Frame seems similar, but I'm no expert!

Dynatech MT4 is a higher spec frame as has Ti chainstays & Mn-Mo (Reynolds 531) seatstays, the M-Trax Team Edition is equivalent to a Dynatech MT3 with Mn-Mo chainstays & seatstays.
MT4 actually uses the equivalent to Reynolds 653 seatstays and in combination with the Ti chainstays gives a very nice, if slightly flexy ride.
Ti Dynatech's were comparatively good value bitd for their somewhat unique ride character, and they're an even better bargain SH. Underrated I reckon.

Very underrated! As bikemeister says, we had it good, British built hand made bikes, but people wanted Taiwanese american marques.

I put in a bid for the Dynatech

what was the difference between the MT3/4/5 etc?
And anyone have any Catalogue/Brochure scans of the Dynatech MT's?

And who else made comparable bikes? spec/materials etc?

Hi ferrus, do you have any literature that clarifies this?
1991 brochure for the top level 2070 frames states 653 main tubes & 531 stays so assumed that they were carried through to 1992 (admittedly no longer wishbone configuration) - thought Raleigh would have made more of the marketing if higher spec 653 stays?

hmm, I did have an obscure reference to it somewhere I'm sure...
It is a bit odd that Raleigh didn't make more of the Reynolds thing - it might have something to do with the tubesets being different to off-the-shelf sets; were the ones used on the Dynatechs plain guage, for instance?.

Regarding the rear stays, well the MT3 uses Cr-Mo ones, so maybe a downgrade from the 2070 frames in this respect ..Only Reynolds 501 is Cr-Mo I think, everything above being Mn-Mo..

But 653 was a concept tubeset, a 531 mainframe with 753 stays....

Hey! I've just checked the down tube from my broken Dynatech Pro. This was a 2080 tubeset, apparently equvalent to Reynolds 753 - and guess what, there is no butting!, it's a plain guage tube. So it might be 753 metallurgy but it's not a regular tubeset.

That's sounds very familiar now you mention it
but I'm sure I've also heard that 653 is the same as 753 but without the heat treatment....?
