Bomber Z1 refurb thread - TOTAL RAGE!!!

If you do find a replacement, ive a pair of adjusters you can have. They're the circular ones off an early pair of Z2's, but will fit as the interface is the same.
Does that make you feel a bit better

Cheers Pies. I'm pleased too, but thoroughly annoyed at the same time!

It makes me mutter "bloody typical" to myself, since after looking for a set of these for months, yours would be the second set within as many weeks! Cheers though.

Hmmm. Sacrifice on arrival?

Try to think of it as helping a fallen cousin. Much like if Bombers carried Donor Cards...;)

Theyre still here should you need them in the future  and if you dont im more than sure someone will

Re:

Presumably the cannot be repaired eg helicoil, retapped to use next size bolt.
, or tapped a longer distance?

Hmmm, not sure I follow. There really isn't much left for a helicoil to take to at the bottom of the cartridge (see photo on page 1). If I'm understanding you correctly, that is.

I had thought it might be possible to drill and tap inside the remaining stud, then fit a threaded stud to give the required length. But to be honest, it sounds like a lot of work!

Or else, soldering the broken stud back on? But I believe soldering aluminium can be a bit of a nightmare?

I'm going to fit Z2 internals for now, and run it like that.

No, the damage is critical. the entire or near entire threaded stub has i believe sheared off.

Thankfully there arent left/right specific.

There was a thread a bit back on correct torques and many thought that an unnecessary luxury

Well who knew...it isn't possible to simply swap Z2 internals into Z1 legs. Due to the Z1's longer travel, the outer legs have a lower bottom end plate (my own technical term) which the shorter length Z2 internal cartridge cannot take up.

So, game over on these until I find new Z1 internals.

Have you tried putting a set of mole grips on what is left of the stud and winding it out so you can replace the stud with a new one? I find it highly unlikely that this will be machined out of one piece of aluminium.

Carl.
