Checking back through her bank account the missus noticed that the car insurance hadn't been taken for 2 months so gave them a call today..

The woman on the phone said the policy had gone into default and that, unless she paid the 2 months now, the policy would be cancelled..

Fair enough.. BUT..

She also said that reminder letters had been sent to our previous address..

Now the address was changed with the broker and we have received mail from them at this address..

There is good reason for the people associated with the other address not to know where we live now, aside from it's none of their bloody business..
If the broker has sent stuff there divulging our address is there any recourse?

There is no recourse as far as I am aware.

You didn't redirect?

Sounds like a sheet company, are they going to penalise you if you shop around and get a new policy?

We had 2 months of redirection, that expired in the first half of February.. they'd already sent a letter to the new address during January (Wife informed them of our move in December) ... and then sent subsequent ones to the old one... dicks!!

I'm going to get copies of all letters that were sent.. best they don't have the new address on them

The company is Admiral... and we'll most definitely be shopping around.. 8)

Been there, done that.. when Wife last worked they still based our income on what she earned 2 years previous..

Took us 3months to get it sorted..

The insurance have assured us that the letters didn't contain details of our new address and are going to forward copies of all correspondence to us too..

Done a little shopping around and we're looking at about £220 for the coming year.. reasonable for a big ol' 4x4 8)

maybe Im not grasping your point, but it seems simple.
youve been running the car for 2 months, no accidents, no police hassle, but effectivelyuninsured for 2 months at no cost.
Simple answer is to cancel direct debit ASAP and get a new policy with someone else and thank the lord that youve saved 2 months worth of insurance.
Simples? No?

Sounds appealling - with one caveat - if there's any incidents that occurred, or traffic / safety camera actions pending (possible that change of address may have delayed them), then if anything came out of it, you'd need to prove you were insured at the time.

Remote possibility - perhaps nothing to worry about - but worth consideration.

My point is that the address was changed and we received a letter at the new address (thus confirming, to us, that all was ok).. then, when the missus contacted the insurance top re-set up the direct debit), they said that a couple of letters had been sent to the old address..
Now, we have good reason for the people at the other place not to be given our address on a plate, so to speak.. this is our main concern..
We haven't been driving uninsured and our premiums are all paid and up to date..

The chances of us getting 2 months free anything are slim to none

maybe I'm reading too much into this, but this seems to contradict your opening post ...

Not at all .. the car insurance hadn't been taken by direct debit, the broker didn't stop cover and, when she rang them to query it, she paid it up to date..
