Great comp everyone, made all the more enjoyable by the fact everyone behaved (well almost) thanks for the votes on my daughters bike, very surprised to get a respectable fourth amongst all those top ‘proper’ bikes… cheers and Merry Christmas.. :xmas-big-grin:

The write up that accompanied the Yeti build was worthy of a prize in its own right, mind you Peachy's kept me entertained over a longer period and was equalling entertaining :D

great entries in Nov - 2nd 3rd and 4th places only split by three vote

Re:

I'll take 2nd place with gratitude :)
I'd like to thank my parents, brothers and sister, long suffering girl friend, local bike shops, ebay, and of course Retrobike
Many thanks for all that voted for my Muddy Fox ;)

Now I think Regan should disclose his build cost....

The NHS isnt ready for the national retrobike fallout from the answer to that question...

Ooof! Pretty convincing win Regan. As someone else wrote, the write-up was worth a prize on its own.

Glad my Pace wasn't ready for the November vote

Like everyone else I don't know (and to be honest I don't want to) - I'm sure it would make your eyes water otherwise they would be ten a penny, however just to get going I know he had to part with almost all of his Retro collection including a Alpinestars Ti Mega and a NOS Al Mega XTR - and he ain't a posh boy with rich parents so every penny he spent he had to earn..... I guess it's just a case of how much you want something and how far you go and how much your prepared to give up in pursuit of a single goal... I wouldn't have the staying power to focus as long as it must have taken to track down the parts before even being in a position to pick up a wrench

As for Value for money - the whole Retro scene is a bust idea for common sense and value for money
if we're all honest its just a Pastime /Hobby that we indulge ourselves with to a greater or lesser extent than the guy next door.

and as the Muddy Fox proved it beat all the other boutique brands two Merlins a Fat and a Manitou, so its not all about the $'s spent ....and not forgetting Peachy ran them close as well.

I voted muddy fox.

Regan, you've built one of the most iconic, rare and (probably) expensive retro bikes here, and it's a worthy winner, well done. It's a truly top-notch build.

So, why didn't i vote for it? I totally wasn't aware of the yeti in the 90s. Until a few years ago, I'd never heard of the C-26. The muddy fox was real back then. It *is* nostalgia.

It's WHY retrobike is so epic for me. One mans unicorn is another mans junk.

Every bike was a winner this month.

Re:

Thanks to recent posts for further congrats, and I'll echo the sentiments which state it's not about the brand or the cost as to why each of us loves whichever bikes we have, but the value and the love alone.

As for the cost of this, I don't know exactly. I have a rough idea within a few hundred, but it was all purely about the love. Spud is almost right in my sacrificing other bikes to help fund this, although the Ti Meg and NOS Al XTR made way for me to buy my Breezer. It was the AL DX that I sold to pay towards this, but that sale didn't even offset the cost of the original Yeti Pro FRO. (I also lost over £1,000 on that Alpinestars, which I vowed never to sell, but needs must.)

I have further plans for this C-26 which I'm going to partially strip after Christmas and swap out almost all of it in an attempt yo get it close to the 23.5lb weight stated by MBA mag in their article on the C-26 prototype. I joked with John Parker that they (Zap Espionza) must've used journalistic licence on that weight claim, but JP retorted that 23.5lb was accurate and they (YETI) measured in on a calibrated Los Angeles country scale.

With that said, and if my interpretation of the BOTM rules is right, I should be able to enter it in BOTM again, with a possibly of it winning BOTM twice.

Not a retro one. Breezer Repack Team, 2016. BTW, today is Joe Breeze's birthday!
