Bike lock Dragons Den Invention idea.

id just get me some hard pipe hittin mofos to hang around near the bike...any one touches it...they go medi evil on his ass with some pliers and a blowtorch..

The institute of materials ran a session two years ago when the tour de france was in town. Worthe seeing what they came up with. It was concept, but pretty similar stuff. Has milage. Giant scissor thype things were the main, but steel braids inside went some way to mitigate. Whilst kevlar and stuff has good stregth in tension, its shear strength is much lower than steel. To keep it light- titanium wire. . .?

i agree, having worked with carbon and kevlar for a number of years i wouldnt suggest this as an ideal application, bolt croppers would easily cut thru it,a titanium D lock would be a better idea and maybe not as expensive as it sounds..

I've also heard of thieves using a 4' or 6' scaffolding tube (that they carry) as a lever and just twisting this around to snap the lock/chain. You'd need to lock it so that if they tried this, they'd deform/ruin/break an expensive part of the bike too, and not make it worth taking.

Interesting Idea and I havnt time at the mo to put any great deal of thought into it. However a Decent D lock is more in the order of £80-£100 so it should give you a more generous price point to play about with.

I thought of that - I dont think so.

Again - think of modern convertable car roofs - the material is so weather resistant and strong it would be difficult to even put a proper burn mark into it.

I need to really get some roof material and see if its realy that good I must admit...
