Which isn't M&S, used them for a few years however this years premium is eye watering despite not having claimed.

Any suggestions??

I see I'm not the only one who went "WTF?!?!" this year... Ours jumped by 30%ish, I'll be watching this thread with interest!

I can't remember who I'm with at the mo, it's on my house insurance rather than specific cycle insurance, but the cover is quite good. They are covered for theft the house (& accidental damage as well I believe)

All my bikes (even the £2k+ bike) are named & covered for an extra £17 a year on the house insurance (yes that's £17 a year)

I spoke to my local independent financial advisor to get my bikes insured

Obviously insurance prices vary with location etc, but I think it's well worth a call to your independent financial advisor as no specific cycle insurer could match the value & M&S were way off the price too, even more so with the price hike

Cheers Andy, would be good to know who you were with.

Got a few internet quotes and they were all waaaay less than M&S. Even the M&S website gave me a quote 1/3 less than my renewal. Rang M&S and told them to forget it....

Have you tried a fresh M&S quote rather than renewing? Never tried it with them specifically, but I've had lower numbers for other insurance that way. Mad, really. My business insurance came up for renewal the other week, premium 20% up on the previous year. Did online quote as a new customer with the same insurer, came out 20% lower than the previous year.

I did, that's what I was alluding to above. The quote from the M&S website was 66% less than my renewal quote. Just rang them and they would not match this given it was for 'new customers only', hence I told them to forget it...

Just go to the website with the least annoying TV advert... Ah. Sorry, duff info

Seriously, Go Compare are pretty good for all sorts of insurance - nothing to do with a mate of mine being IT Director, honest.

I would agree with this despite the ad being the most annoying, they came out cheaper for both cars and house for the past two years.
Our insurance is with the AA and they cover all bikes away from the home to a maximum of 2k, so we can take one of mine, the wifes and my lads away and they are all covered if stolen or damaged.

Carl.

I went for Endsleigh, although the policy itself is courtesy of Liverpool Victoria; Endsleigh just acted as middlemen doing the pricing-up and sourcing, it would seem. Paying a very reasonable annual rate (£170ish although I'm in a rented house so my home insurance is contents-only with the landlord picking up the tab for structual stuff) including £2k worth of bikes, although said policy may not be what you're after if you want coverage for what might happen to your bike(s) when off the premises (I think theft is covered as long as the bike is locked up or in a lockable building).

Good stuff. Nationwide is looking good so far, just finishing getting online quotes. Needs doing by tomorrow, how I wish I started this a month ago
