Easier to spin on the flat than get off on the hills :)

Must be at least two of us wusses then - I'm currently running 32:18 and I couldn't get away with anything taller than that (not round here at least).
It's ok on the road for a mile or two , as long as you're not in a hurry (and I'm not !). The small chainring is also good for log and rock clearance and sharp edged drop-offs in situations where you can't carry the front and just have to roll over.
