Best steel frame available today?

I've got a Cotic and really like it, its great for woodsy singletrack and has great geometry for climbing the steeps.
I also had an On One Inbred but as Dr S said, they are very long, plus heavy. Mate has a RM Blizzard which I'd say is nicer finished than my Soul (ace Maple leaf paintwork) and maybe even lighter, but I wanted to run bigger forks and the RM doesnt really suit over 100mm.
Another mate had a Charge which seemed really heavy and dead.
No ones mentioned the latest version of the Orange P7 which seems to get good reviews too.
Still agree with others though, non of the above are the 'best' compared to custom, say a new Roberts D.O.G.S.B.O.L.X :twisted:

The Ala Carte frame is gorgeous but recommended for an 80mm fork and Thorpie is after 100mm. I don't know much about fork and frame fits but i'm sure you could get away with 100mm on this frame.
Great tubing though, my old GT Psyclone is True Temper OX Gold, must be the predecessor to the platinum tubing the Ala Carte is made from.

There are still some very nice steel frames:Independent Fabrication Soulcraft,Kelly,Groovy to name just a few but these all cost big bucks.
Alot of the stuff already mentioned will probably be fine,just depends on how much of a bike snob you are!
Could also try pricing up a custom frame from a UK builder.
