Best saddle?

I've used a wide selection of saddles including your Max Fite trans am with similar results, fine for 2 hours but not for 3+. The classic WTB SST-X has always been a favourite fo comfort, and the -X matters as that is the designation of their wider models

However, I've now converted all but one of my bikes to SDG Bel Air's, the particular tail profile really works for me. Classic ones on retro rides, the I-beam type on my moderns. With the nod for comfort going to the I-beams.

Enjoy!!

If you are eating your dinner off 'them' could the sores actually be burns??!! I have always used Selle Italia Turbomatic III saddles both on road and off. I am testing a Rolls on the new build at the moment but can't really comment yet.

Im going to so regret this ... All the saddles I have used at the moment this is by far the most comfortable

Yes its a womens saddle, My G/F got it for the orange

I used to get loads of saddle sores.

Shifted to Assos shorts, cream and washing liquid - and haven't had one since.

Comfortwise, saddles are too subjective to make serious recommendations. Currently available favourites of mine though are Fizik Arione, Specialised Alias and Rival (143mm).

This might seem like a fashion thing, but I really like the Fizik Gobi and after many tries (you may have seen my recent saddle sale) am sticking to it

Thanks for the replies guys.

The SLR! I tried one just the once for a 30 miler, never again. I'd been doing a lot of mileage about then too but still it broke my butt. They look great but I had to take it off the first chance I got.

Like I said earlier, I've been using Selle Italia Max flite Transam (why the long name?!) saddles for quite a few years now on the geared bikes. Within a few months of discovering single speeding I started to get a little bit uncomfortable after about 20 miles - 20 mile arse my mate calls it and even though he doesn't use a bike computer he knows when we're coming up to 20 miles... Anyway, on with the details. I wondered if it was something to do with the higher cadence that's needed at times? Using a geared bike you can always use the cadence that you're comfortable with, not so with the ss. When you're pedalling at a high cadence there's a bit of bobbing on the saddle, this seems to cause a bit of chafing despite good quality cycling shorts and a liberal application of Assos arse cream. I guess this chafing is the biggest part of the problem?

The problem started to get worse as the rides became longer, now I get the occasional sore there and after a ride the area is red and slightly inflamed. I'm just hoping that a change of saddle will cure it, I love my Flites but if they aren't suitable they'll have to go. On the ss at any rate. :(

I use Flites and Ariones and both are very comfy (for me).

Also done three MM's on a Flite, both a TransAm and the 'classic', and never had a problem with saddle sores on any of them so I think for me at least the saddles can cope with the ss distance rides fine.

Not sure how this helps really apart from it appears that you, the Flite and your ss bike don't get on too well for longer rides. To me this suggests that you need to get another ss for longer rides with and different saddle and/or set up and keep the current one for shorter blasts.
