Best saddle?

I guess I'm directing this one at the folk who do a fair few miles on a regular basis.

When I rode my geared bike I never used to have a problem but since upping my mileage on the single speed (I'm doing high 30's and low 40 milers now) I'm starting to suffer with saddle sores. I'm using Selle Ialia Max Flite Transam saddles (I have been for several years now) decent shorts (Endura MT500, Pearl Izumi, etc) Assos arse cream and keep my nether regions scrupulously clean - in fact you could eat your dinner off them! Yet still I'm getting sore. :(

So, what's the best saddle out there for somebody who does lengthy off road rides two or three times a week? I've just bought a Fizik Gobi XM but thought I'd gather some info if that doesn't work out for me.

What, the old Flite? Got one on my TFC Yo Eddy, I could never do a long ride on that - it'd break me!

Brooks are great, though not ideal IMO if your low at the front.

SLR's and SLR xp's are fantastically comfy the lack padding actually helps I feel. Less moving about = less friction and the shell contours to your ass nicely.

Also like the charge spoon great VFM and comfy too.

Lots of folks also rave about the Fizik arione but I have never tried one.

maybe a poll this one. I Only use original flites, at least 3k miles a year for the last 15 years, so thats all I sit on. I must have a flite shaped but by now. As it works for me, I won't take the risk on changing. Original flite, never used the more modern ones, gelflows and the like

When I first started off-roading I used a Rolls – it was fantastic, but a bit of a brick. Changed to a flite when they first came out and have been using them ever since.

Recently put a San Marco Regal (the one with the rivets) on the Avalanche and thats very comfy too, especially now it's broken in.

Strangely, picked up a new Rolls for the Chance, but that didn't feel very good at all.

Think the message here is Flites seem comfy straight from the box, but some of the classics can take a while (and a fair few miles) to mould to your arse shape.

One thing that seems to have helped with the regal is lots of wet rides, then loads of leather food.

Vetta TT Trishock or SL.

Cheap as chips (£6 posted off Ebay brand new 8) ) but I use them on all my bikes (save for the poncy red Flite on my RTS, thats uncomfortable  ). Used them BITD for racing and now for just riding around all day.

Love 'em :D
