I don't know much about this but I did do my own forks and they still look good.
First, if you want to recreate the original colour, you will need the RAL code. This code basically determines the colour so is important. For my Saracen I didn't know it so after trying Halfords, (colour matching by highly trained and motivated technicians was a advertising blitz on the television at the time), and being faced with an idiot spotty yoof with an IQ of around 19.5 I went to a small independant paint shop. I left the frame withthem and 3 days later had the RAL code and two tins of spray paint for barely more money than off the shelf tins at Halfords.
Second, I'm guessing your Bombers won't be steel but aluminium or magnesium? You are going to need a specialist etch primer or the paint won't stick.
Third, three or four thin coats are much better than one thick one.
Forth, flatting with very fine wet and dry is important.
Lacquer over the top of the paint.
Cook at a low temperature in your (electric?) oven for a harder finish.
It won't be as stron as professional paint though.
