Best Canti's?

Not really neil as the cable pull of the kcnc levers isnt really sufficient for the vs they are designed to work with so when you set the brakes up with the rear bits just clearing the rim the lever nearly hits the bar before stopping you, when the sticky bit has been removed you can get the pads closer to the rim...Damn things.....glad I am out of them

That's just your poor choice of setup not the pads fault.

The protruding part on a 'normal everyday proper' setup makes it easy and doubles up as a 'scraper'.

All pads squeal, there is nothing you can do about it they constantly grip/ungrip and so vibrate causing the squeal. The aim is to move the squeal out of our hearing range.

Anyways longer pads are less susceptible to this apparently, or so the theory goes. That's why Shimano moved to the longer pads way back when.

Anyways, do a search for Aztec Rim Rakes

aztec....that was them 8)

I will post my next set of kcnc to you for setting up fluffy....if I am unfortunate enough to own another set

I was just looking at some other pads I have laying around-the original M900 non-cartridge pads also had the two little 1mm bumpers like the XC Pros pictured above. Must have been cutting-edge technology at the time

Good thread!

Best brakes for me are Paul Stoplight MC's, easy to adjust, Paul still make spares that will fit, team them up with grey Aztec pads and they're grrrrrreat!

When it comes to brakes levers I have Avid Ultimates, Paul Love Levers and Carambas but my all-time favourites are Dia-Compe SS-5 :)

Cheers

That's clearly where we differ, then.

Pads like those, I don't toe-in - I wind out the barrel adjuster a bit, and set them up flush to the rim. The sticky-out bit is designed to create toe-in (among other things...).

yep on kcnc they also create drag and rub all the time....because they have to be set up so close to the rim to have any power at all....anyway kcnc are v brakes anyway .......I wouldnt recommend them as the old marin lite where far more powerful

those mathauser pads squeal a lot
but a good muddy ride up the lomonds beds them in well

lf only i could get the pads to stay in the holders
