Bent hanger… can it be repaired? or needs to be replaced?

No, thats hot metal being forged.
That means the metal is really soft. Hitting it with a hammer would flatten and distort it. Probably lengthen it slightly.
Also may affect the welding, and as heat travels, by the time the dropout is at that temp, the seat tube would probably be a few hundred degrees too.

Stick to hairdryers

And take note of mattr's post.

TBH. Hairdrier probably only get it to 50 degrees. I used a paint stripping gun. So about 150-175.

Re:

Dontt be afraid if heat. Ive found you can go to 159c and more before paint starts to blister.

Heat makes steel softer , red hot 600c is ideal but in sure it wilk bend ok with less.

could be wrong but i think i got this back fairly good to where it should! :D

i used a 1500w heat gun to warm it up. placed the hanger in a vice and bent it back as straight as i could vertically up and down. then placed an axle to help with the drop-out spacing. and again heated up and with the hanger in the vice, proceeded to bend the hanger forward to close up the gap.

continued to heat and tweak till i was happy. definitely wasn't one steady motion, as it took a few tries to get to where it is now. hope that was okay, and didn't weaken the steel too much. :?

You could now test the alignment of the hanger by screwing in a shimano axle equipped wheel. If the rims of the rear wheel and the wheel in the dropout are parallel, you can be sure the hanger is "perfectly square"

Been lurking and watching with interest. Top job. Liking the moderate heat. The last one i did with a bit of pipe over the hanger and by eye.

Proper job next time.

Re:

next DIY project… do you think i could bend this one back into shape???

Re:

Odd, I thought the trend was towards a longer wheelbase and slacker head angles these days. :P

like to report that it's been built up and shifting is all good! :D

thx everyone! ;)
