BBC Radio 6

Radio 6 is a digital radio station that showcases new music on the BBC, it's pretty good! The only reason I don't listen is cos it's not on FM, and I can't get digital at work.

As for what I think the BBC should get rid of ... R1 (it's the same as any commercial radio station minus the adverts, but plus really annoying presenters), R3 (that's what Classic FM is for!), R5Live (who actually cares about live cricket commentary? Or is that gonna get me some really nasty comments?! Lol!!) and BBC3 can just disappear off the face of the planet as far as I'm concerned ... it's rubbish!!

They should definitely keep R4 (it's fab!), BBC 1 & 2 (obviously!!) and BBC4 as well. I don't think they should get rid of the Asian network ... who else provides that kind of content?! But they can lose most of the website, as long as they keep the MET ofice weather forecasts ... my business depends on that!! 8)

The only DAB station I liked, Chill FM, went off air. It smacks the face of the digital switch over as there wont be anything digital to switch over to...

LGF, you've hit the nail on the head... I used to listen to "The Arrow" all the time... no adverts, DJ's just classic rock 24/7. That station died earlier this year.

Then switched to 6Music and now that seems to be doomed!

Mind you, listening to Mr Dyke on fivelive yesterday and agreed when he said there will now be a number of protests/petitions and the beeb will back down...

Five Live is OK... just repeats itself constantly, can't stand that teatime show though...

Sad times, it's probably one of the best stations there is with proper documentaries on half decent music.

I reckon axe that cnut Moyles....never happen though :(

With Ross leaving in the summer, surely the savings would be enough to run two more stations??

I really hope they don't bring Norton on to replace him.....eeeemmmmm

I couldnt live without the BBC, they have done a lot for broadcasting in general. We have them to thank for broadcasting standards and technology.

OK we have to pay the tax/ licence - I dont care, I'd rather that than live in Murdoch world.

I DO live in Murdoch world (to the extent that ALL the newspapers in Brisbane are Murdoch papers) and I wish I didn't. If it were possible, I would gladly pay the licence fee from here to enable me to use iPlayer.

I don't get everybody saying axe Radio 3. Classic FM is NOT the same thing as Radio 3, and never will be. That's like expecting Capital to do what 6Music do. Not going to happen. If you think they are the same thing, I'd suggest you've not listened enough to either. Radio 5 probably should stay, it's a niche thing again, but is still the definition of public service broadcasting.

I completely agree with you on both keeping the Asian network (I could not believe they thought axeing that was a good idea for their Public Service remit) and equally that BBC Three should go. BBC Three costs way more than the radio stations anyway, and is full of crap that can be provided by E4, Sky One blah blah blah, loads of other people really. Seems to me the Beeb just value their TV stations more than their radio stations, which is a damn shame.

I don't get the BBC3 slating... a lot of new comedy and other programs are showcased their first then moved to the main channels if proved popular.
Being Human
Gavin & Stacey
The Mighty Boosh
Last Man Standing
Monkey Dust
How Not To Live Your Life

Loads more.

I probably watch BBC3 & BBC4 more than than BBC1 & BBC2 and that's good going because 3 & 4 don't broadcast until 7pm! ITV has drastically dive bombed in the last few years, I cannot think of one show I watch.

Maybe this is the reason you guys don't like BBC3 :P :D i'm hanging on to the edge of that age group.

Our Priorities

BBC Three is a mixed genre channel for young audiences.

We have three key priorities:

The channel needs to be disciplined about focusing on the young - its centre of gravity will be 16-34 year-olds: people who are young in spirit and mindset.

BBC Three needs to continue to innovate with stand-out entertainment, breakthrough comedy and intelligent factual formats. Our content needs to have potential to innovate across platforms.

BBC Three should provide an environment for the development of new ideas and talent and for existing talent to take risks, becoming a genuine laboratory for BBC One and BBC Two.

Key programme areas for BBC THREE
Comedy

BBC Three is the home of new comedy, with the ability to create shows with high impact, like Gavin and Stacey. We are particularly successful when it comes to unearthing new talent. Comedian Dan Clark's show How Not To Live Your Life and Coming of Age by 19 year-old writer Tim Dawson were both great successes for us.

We're also looking for new content through the Comedy Extra portal which uses multiplatform in an innovative way.

Goodbye Radio 6 :D Most new music is a load of tosh anyway, don't mind the real musicians out there but please kill off x factor shite!!!

There's only one station to listen to.......DAB Planet Rock! I've listened to this station for the last 10 years and it gets better and better. Plays anything from Jethro Tull to Greenday to Led zep to FooFighters.............Go on try it!!

Because of this station i have DAB in the car and Garage. In the house i can get it on SKY!

Rock music 24/7...hell yeah!!

6 Music isn't just about new music. It's about niche music, alternative stuff, rock music (yes that as well...), it's everything the establishment is afraid of. The complete antithesis of Radio 1.

Great presenters (Gideon Coe, Steve Lamacq, Mark Riley etc), just about the only place you can listen to the old Peel Sessions, not pigeonholed or playlisted. There is a requirement for this kind of thing and people to listen to it; 800,000 listeners wasn't it? Someone wants it.

6Music to me is John Peel's show, the mix of music with the passion of the presentation.

BBC3 has produced some quality programming, why they then 'promote' those shows to 2 or 1 is beyond me when they should persuade people towards digital.
