BB tapping sets

I've got a Cyclus tap & facer here in W Cambridgeshire. I like the quality, gets used about twice a month, has lasted 4 years without needing sharpening so far. You can try it out if you want, PM.

The taps etc from Tracey tools are OK in a fix, but they lack the pilots and guides of the specialised tools, and no integral facers or Italian threads. Getting the threads and faces all aligned is doubly important with the external cupped stuff around now. BITD cup and cone BBs were a lot more forgiving of bad alignment.

My only experiance of Park stuff is theit workshop Allen key set, which has lasted 12 years of full time workshop use, but it's pricey.

You should only need to face the BB shell on external BB's. I think it's a dieing technology anyway now due to bearings wearing out so quick. DH'ers seem to be moving back to square taper according to people I've spoken to.

Square taper BB are great. I have tried the other and I do wonder why anything else is needed.

In shops, I've always used Park, Campag or VAR, all real nice, but too pricey for home use. In around '98, I bought Cyclus for home. It's not quite so user friendly as more expensive kit, but for the money it's a good quality tool. It has never needed sharpening or replacement cutters and has had more than average "home use". I'd recommend it.

If you're going to be doing repairs professionally, open an account with Madison and then buy the Park one. You'll need to be getting cables/housing/brake pads/stuff anyway...

Well I have just got the workshop rented today and will be picking up the keys on Saturday. So I now have somewhere to put tools. Madison's on of the first distributors I will be phoning. I'll make a decision when I see the trade price on the park tools.
