BB question

I have an old shimano bottom bracket. A BB-UN51. The thread on the drive side lock ring is damaged. This side is stuck to the actual BB, as it is supposed to be. Now my question is, does this mean I can throw out the BB, or is there any way of removing and replacing the lock ring?

You can heat it up (boiling hot water) but for the cost of a replacment you cup to the cost of a similar quality whole BB, may as well just buy a new Bottom Bracket.
